Since June 25, 1966, when we performed the state of Florida’s first kidney transplant, the UF Health Shands Transplant Center has been an industry leader in transplant medicine, and its staff has provided unparalleled expertise in highly complex, lifesaving treatments for patients around the world.

With a combined total of more than 8,000 organ transplants performed, our team has the experience and expertise to provide patients with the best transplant experience possible.

The UF Health Shands Transplant Center uses a coordinated team approach to care with over 100 staff members dedicated to assisting our patients and their families through every phase of the transplant journey — from pretransplant to lifelong posttransplant care. These team members include medicine physicians, surgeons, nurses, financial coordinators, donor coordinators, administrative support staff, social workers, physical and respiratory therapists, and psychologists.
